About South Lincs Foundry
For well over 50 years, South Lincs Pattern Shop and Foundry have been working with customers from the food, marine and pump industries, to the steam and general engineering industries.
South Lincs Foundry has become renowned for it’s quality and ability to complete unique and complex projects.
The South Lincs Foundry story starts with Brian Harriman; a pattern maker working in Peterborough in the 1960s wanting to set up a workshop of his own. With pattern maker friend Bert Blake on board, the pair set up a temporary workshop in the small sheds behind The Whistlestop pub in Tallington whilst they looked for a more suitable place to build their workshop.
The chosen place was Market Deeping. Brian moved his young family in to a house on Halfleet which came with a large piece of land. Here Brian and Bert built and equipped a pre-fabricated building with a band saw, sander, planer and circular saw. South Lincs Patterns was born.
Over time, more pre-fab modules were required to accommodate the successful, growing company. It became a master pattern shop with 14 pattern makers feeding local foundries such as Peter Brotherhood and Mirrlees Blackstones with their patterns. Brian’s son David also joined the business in 1976.
When the recession hit in the 1980s, many foundries, and subsequently pattern shops across the country closed down. This was a result of work being sent abroad to China and India due to a lower cost economy. Sadly, many of the traditional pattern-making skills were to disappear with them. To survive, South Lincs Patterns needed to adapt.
In 1980 the company was operating a small aluminium foundry at the back of the site in Market Deeping. It was at this time that a well-known local foundry closed. Initially working in partnership with Baker Perkins, South Lincs Patterns took advantage of this gap in the market and set about creating a steel and iron foundry on the current Spalding site. With founding workers Terry Miller, Pat Walpol and Bernard Skipworth, the foundry went in to production with just two customers.
Today South Lincs Pattern Shop and Foundry supply hundreds of customers across many different industries and continues to invest in its equipment and future. From the food, marine and pump industries, to the steam and general engineering industries. However, it is renowned for being one of the best foundries in the country for producing vintage replacement motor car parts for Aston Martin, Bentley, Rolls Royce and Bugatti.
Simply put, South Lincs Foundry is renowned for its quality and ability to take on complex jobs. With David Harriman still at the helm, the company has an incredible knowledge, experience and first class service. It is a traditional pattern shop and foundry for the 21st century.
David still lives on the original site of the pattern shop in Market Deeping. He has seen his family grow up there and now works with his two son-in-laws.

The South Lincs Foundry team are passionate about building up our unique skills base. We currently employ 2 apprentices, one each in the pattern shop and foundry.
We are always keen to introduce the company to any prospective trainees wishing to enter the industry and keep the old skills alive, while at the same time developing new ones.
